We continue to share tricks that will help you properly prepare your layout for printing. We have already become familiar with the basic concepts and ideal parameters for preparing one-page printed products. Today we will pay attention to more complex multi-page products.

Staple fastening

Several technologies are used to connect printed products. One of the most budget-friendly options is fastening with a staple. It has a limit on the number of pages, but it is quite reliable and convenient to open.

Like single-page products, multi-page products are cut off at the edges, which must be taken into account in the layout. Therefore, a margin of 5 mm is required on the external sides.

A slightly larger margin is required for the internal sides. So that important elements do not fall into the folding line (folding) or creasing (special groove indicating the fold line). Moreover, this indicator will differ for the first/last pages and pages closer to the center, especially in large brochures, since they close worse.

Ideally, for the initial pages, leave margins of 5 mm and another 10 mm - this is a safe space for important items. For a central spread, it is better to leave 10 mm + 10 mm. If you neglect this recommendation and make all the fields the same, you may end up with different indents in the finished product

Fixing with hot-melt adhesive

Hot-melt adhesive is a popular method for joining large brochures, magazines and books in paperback. Modern technologies guarantee excellent reliability and durability of this method. However, glued products open worse, so you need to take into account the area that will not be visible (3-5 mm) and the part of the page that “goes” into the spine (5-7 mm). Recommended margins and safe zones:

  • outer edges - 5 mm for trim and 10 mm for safe zone;
  • inner edges - 15-25 mm;
  • li>in the cover spread layout, it is necessary to leave 5 mm bleed on the outside and take into account the thickness of the spine

Securing with a spring

Most often, a spring is used for making notebooks. It is also suitable for a variety of presentations and other representative products. If the layout contains important images or information, it is worth providing 5 mm for the safe zone and 5 mm for the trim. For the side with the spring, the safe zone increases to 10-20 mm, and the margin remains the same - 5 mm.
