Creative Die Cutting: The Secret Ingredient

Creative Die Cutting: The Secret Ingredient

16.01.2018

Today there is fierce competition in almost all areas of business. To increase effectiveness, every advertising campaign must be memorable and attract the attention of the audience. This applies to any communication channel, be it advertising on television, on the Internet, or printed materials. An important ingredient is uniqueness. In print advertising, such an “ingredient” can be an unusual die-cut.

What is it

The production of printed products consists of several stages: creating a design and preparing a file for printing, printing itself and post-printing processing . It is at the last stage that the printed sheet turns directly into products - flyer, business card or booklet. At the same stage, the product is decorated - varnish is applied, a special film is applied, and the final shape is given. It is the giving of the final shape using special metal stamps that is die cutting.

As a rule, die cutting is associated with a rectangular shape or straight lines. A simple example is a square box in a disassembled state. However, modern technologies make it possible to do much more sophisticated things, turning standard products into a real masterpiece.

You can use a die cut to highlight some part, for example, a logo. Or you can work on a unique design.

Unique brochures

Brochure - quite ordinary example of printed products. In essence, it is a sheet folded several times that conveys certain information about the company. Many people think that using brochures is no longer fashionable, but die-cutting gives them a fresh, modern look and adds personality. The die-cut brochure looks stunning. One of the simplest examples is to use a non-standard shape - a circle or a triangle.

Additionally, the shape of the brochure can be directly related to your business. Let's say if your company is related to drinks, you can make a brochure in the shape of a bottle. Or make it in the form of some kind of fruit, if you are supplying fruits. At first glance, your brochure will already evoke certain associations, which is important for the formation of the brand image

If you approach the design and folding method correctly, you can get a product with interactive elements that resemble children's toy books. When you open the booklet, the small components folded inside will be revealed. They can carry additional information (for example, show the possible arrangement of furniture, if the brochure is about the sale of an apartment) or simply serve to attract attention. Even adults will want to open and close such a product and show it to friends and family. This means advertising will work harder.

Correct usage

Internet marketing is very popular in the business environment, but printed products still get a big response. Especially if it is non-standard. Due to their uniqueness, unusual brochures have a wow effect, making people keep them, use them as bookmarks, or share photos of an interesting find with friends on social networks. Thus, one brochure can “hook” a large audience.

Among the most relevant areas of application:

  • city guides;
  • brochures with information about the company ;
  • invitations to events;
  • printed materials at presentations;
  • menus in cafes and restaurants;
  • product portfolio

Limitations

Of course, making a brochure with non-standard die-cutting is technically not so simple, but a good printing house can do everything. Therefore, when placing such an order, you need to make sure that the contractor has installed modern, high-quality equipment. It is also important to develop the layout together with experienced designers. If you do this yourself, there is a chance that the result will not be the result that was expected. For example, if text or images are placed incorrectly, they may end up in the cut or fold area. It's also best to work with your printing team to select materials, as they will determine whether the paper/cardboard is suitable for die-cutting.

Die-cut brochures look interesting and expensive, inviting people to interact with your product and your brand. The unusual shape of the printed product will make people open the brochure and see what's inside. So such a product will be used as efficiently as possible.
